I used to think living out our faith as a family meant doing more.
More devotionals.
More Bible crafts.
More volunteering.
But somewhere between diaper blowouts, mismatched socks, and lukewarm coffee, God gently showed me something different:
It’s not about adding more.
It’s about seeing Jesus in what’s already there.
It’s in the spilled Cheerios, the tiny muddy boots, the bedtime yawns.
It’s the simple, ordinary moments that He transforms into holy ground — if we’re willing to see it.
Here’s how we (imperfectly) weave faith into our everyday life, right here in the middle of the beautiful, chaotic, sacred mess.
1. Start the Day in Prayer 🙏
Most mornings at our house look like this:
Two toddlers arguing over who gets the “blue cup,” a plate of eggs being dumped on the floor, and me trying to drink coffee before it gets cold… again.
But somewhere in the midst of the scramble, we try to pause.
Sometimes it’s standing in the kitchen, holding hands sticky with syrup, whispering a simple prayer:
“Jesus, thank You for today. Help us love You and love each other.”
It isn’t polished. It isn’t always calm.
But it’s real. And somehow, it re-centers all of us before the day rushes in.
2. Scripture at Mealtimes 🍽️
I’ll be honest — sitting everyone down quietly for a family devotion sounds dreamy… but it’s not usually our reality.
Instead, we sneak God’s Word into our mealtimes.
Sometimes it’s reading a single verse taped to the wall while scooping mac and cheese.
Other times, it’s a quick story from a kid’s Bible during snacktime.
One morning, while munching on toast, my oldest asked, “Did Jesus like toast too?”
I smiled, realizing — this is it.
This is exactly what it looks like to build a home on God’s Word.
3. Worship Music in the Background 🎶
Some days, the tone of our home feels a little… tense.
(okay, a lot tense.)
One simple thing that changes everything? Turning on worship music.
Not loud or fancy — just something gentle humming through the house.
We have a few favorite playlists with songs that lift our hearts without overwhelming our busy rooms.
I’ve watched my little ones start twirling barefoot across the living room, singing about Jesus — and my own heart softens too.
4. Serving Together ❤️
One rainy afternoon, we decided to make cookies for our neighbor.
The kitchen was a disaster. Flour in hair, sticky dough fingerprints everywhere, and toddlers using spatulas as weapons.
It would’ve been easier — cleaner, faster — to do it myself.
But as we knocked on our sweet neighbor’s door and handed her a plate of cookies, I saw it in my kids’ faces: joy.
They were learning what it meant to serve. To love. To give.
Not through a big mission trip or elaborate outreach — but through a messy, homemade batch of cookies.
5. Gentle Faith Conversations 🌿
It’s in the little questions, I think, that faith takes root.
Like when we’re watching a sunset and someone asks, “Did God paint that?”
Or when a toy breaks and we whisper together about how Jesus is close to the brokenhearted too.
These conversations aren’t planned. They bubble up naturally — during nature walks, while picking up Legos, in the backseat of the van.
Faith isn’t a script we have to read perfectly.
It’s an open invitation to wonder, explore, and discover God’s heart together.
6. Sabbath Rest (Even Imperfectly) 🕊️
Our Sundays don’t look like peaceful storybook Sabbaths.
They usually involve a lot of noise, some last-minute errands, and church.
But we try to carve out intentional moments — slow breakfasts, afternoon naps, time outside without schedules or screens.
Some Sundays, we nail it.
Other Sundays, we’re surviving.
But every Sunday, we are reminding our hearts:
“You are not what you produce. You are beloved.”
Resting, even imperfectly, is one of the ways we preach the Gospel to ourselves.
7. Ending the Day with Gratitude ✨
Before bedtime, when the pajamas are finally wrangled on and the books are scattered across the floor, we end with a simple question:
“What’s one thing you’re thankful for today?”
Some nights it’s big things — “I’m thankful for Jesus!”
Other nights it’s hilarious — “I’m thankful for pizza!”
But every night, we get to pause.
We get to end our day not in chaos or complaints, but in gratitude — handing the whole messy, beautiful day back to the One who carried us through it.
🌟Faith is the Thread Woven Through It All
It’s easy to think we’re failing when family devotions don’t look picture-perfect.
But here’s what I’m learning:
Faith doesn’t need a stage.
It needs a table, a front porch, a muddy backyard, a messy kitchen.
It needs real, ordinary moments surrendered to an extraordinary God.
Faith is a thread — not flashy or fancy — quietly weaving through every beautiful, messy, holy day.
And every time we look for Him in the everyday, He shows up.
Every time.
